On February 28, a very interesting auction took place in the USA. The Matthew Bennett International Auction House held an auction of the estate of the Czechoslovak emigrant Eugen W. Friedrich in Boston. Part of this auction were rare Czechoslovak stamps, some of which were already considered lost or non-existent. Among others, for example, a “new” example of the famous 50/50 overprint error appeared here. This rare stamp reached an incredible $ 85,000 in the auction plus an 18% premium, hence $ 100,300. The current Pofis catalogue price is CZK 1,200,000 (approx. $54,500), so the new price significantly exceeded this catalogue price and set a new record.
